November 27th, 7-10PM, Christmas will officially come alive in Woodstock with a flip of the switch that will light the buildings and trees on the Square. The program starts at 7 pm. There will be caroling before and after.

Visit the Aluminum Christmas Tree Forest at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum. Free holiday open house. Enjoy holiday music, homemade cookies, browse our bake sale, make old fashioned Christmas ornaments and search for unique gifts in the gift shop. Lighted by antique color wheels once used to light aluminum trees in the living rooms of the 1950s and '60s, the display conveys Christmas glow we've come to know. Families in need should contact the Sunrise Rotary Club and/or your child's school social worker for a holiday giving program.Many families in McHenry County are desperately struggling due to unexpected job loss, death of a wage earner, divorce or abandonment, illness, disability or other crises. Children in these families might not otherwise experience the joy of a gift to unwrap on Christmas. Last year we helped over 497 kids have a nice Christmas. MCRide Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb, demand-response public transit service available to McHenry County residents traveling within and between partner communities. Riders call the Pace Call Center 800-451-4599 to schedule a trip the day before they need a ride or up to seven days in advance for seniors and individuals with a disability. The fare is based on distance traveled: the general public pays a base fare of $2.00 for the first five miles and $0.25 for each additional mile; and seniors and individuals with a disability pay a base fare of $1.00 for the first five miles and $0.25 for each additional mile. MCRide service hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.Detailed information on how to ride can be found in the rider’s guide (link is external). • Senate Bill 3434 allows for the seizure of a watercraft used in the commission of certain offenses related to operating under the influence. The new rules bring penalties for boating under the influence more in line with those for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
• Senate Bill 3433 requires all persons born after Jan. 1, 1998 to take and pass a boating safety course validated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and hold a valid boating safety certificate before they can operate a motorboat with an engine over 10 horsepower.
• Senate Bill 2731, mandates that the operator of any watercraft that is towing a person, such as a water skier or tuber, must display a bright orange flag measuring not less than 12 inches per side. The flag must be displayed from the time the person to be towed leaves the boat until that person returns to the boat at the conclusion of the activity
